In the realm of small-ship cruising, Victory Cruise Lines has swiftly captured the imagination of discerning travellers seeking immersive voyages through North America in land waterways. After a remarkably successful inaugural 2025 season — marked by enthusiastic guest feedback and bustling departures across the Great Lakes, St. Lawrence Seaway, and Canadian Maritime ports — Victory has firmly established itself as a standout choice for close to home adventures on the water.

Chicago's Navy Pier

Re-launched in 2025 with its purpose-built ships Victory I and Victory II, Victory Cruise Lines offered an all-inclusive, intimate cruising experience for 200 guests that quickly became a hit among seasoned explorers and first-time cruisers alike. Itineraries that connected iconic cities like Toronto, Chicago, Montréal and lesser-visited gems throughout the Great Lakes drew praise for their thoughtful balance of culture, scenery, and accessibility. The ships’ ability to navigate the locks and inland waterways allowed guests to soak in breathtaking landscapes that larger ships simply can’t reach — a defining feature that set Victory apart from traditional ocean-going vessels.

Building on that momentum, Victory’s 2026 season elevates the travel experience even further. The line unveiled a robust lineup of 40 meticulously curated voyages, with 34 traversing all five Great Lakes, each designed to immerse guests in the region’s rich heritage and natural majesty. While the majority of the itineraries run between Toronto and Chicago (the iconic Navy Pier, offering stunning views of the city's skyline), new itineraries expand the company’s reach, offering sailings such as Portland to Québec City and Québec City to Chicago, alongside fan favourites like Chicago to Montréal.

12-Night Chicago to Montréal Passage
If the Great Lakes are North America’s inland seas, then the journey from Chicago to Montréal is their grand narrative—an elegant, slow-unfolding passage that trades Midwestern skylines for the old-world charm of French Canada. Victory's 12-night voyage is less a cruise than a continental crossing, tracing all five Great Lakes before slipping seamlessly into the storied currents of the St. Lawrence Seaway. It begins, fittingly, in Chicago—where a pre-cruise hotel stay along the riverwalk eases guests into the rhythm of unhurried exploration before embarkation.

Once underway, the ship glides across Lake Michigan toward ports that feel both nostalgic and quietly exclusive. Mackinac Island offers a kind of time travel, where horse-drawn carriages replace cars and Victorian charm lingers in the lake air. Farther north, the Soo Locks at Sault Ste. Marie deliver a front-row seat to one of North America’s great engineering spectacles, lifting vessels between the vast differences of Lake Superior and Lake Huron.

Days at sea are anything but idle. Scenic sailings across Lake Superior and Lake Huron reveal an elemental beauty - forested shorelines, open horizons, and a sense of scale that feels almost oceanic. This is followed by a cultural reawakening as the ship calls on Detroit and Cleveland, where curated excursions peel back layers of industrial heritage and artistic revival.

From there, the voyage softens into cosmopolitan ease in Toronto before transitioning into something altogether more European in tone. Sailing Lake Ontario and into the St. Lawrence Seaway, the landscape narrows and deepens, with villages, vineyards, and historic waterways replacing the open immensity of the lakes. By the time Montréal emerges—its cobbled streets, café culture, and French-inflected elegance—the transformation feels complete.

What distinguishes this itinerary is its sweep. It is not merely a Great Lakes cruise, but a transition between worlds—industrial and natural, American and European, freshwater expanse and riverine intimacy. By journey’s end, guests haven’t simply travelled across geography—they’ve crossed cultural thresholds, arriving in Montréal with the distinct sense of having experienced a hidden continent in motion.

Looking Ahead: New Horizons for 2027
Victory isn’t slowing down. For 2027, the line has unveiled a slate of even more expansive offerings designed to deepen exploration and broaden choice. The season features 43 distinct sailings, with roundtrip itineraries launching from Montréal, Québec City and Halifax for the first time — a thrilling development for travellers seeking convenient embarkation points without the need for one-way logistics.

The Montréal roundtrip sailings allow guests to explore the St. Lawrence Seaway and select Great Lakes ports, combining cosmopolitan city experiences with scenic cruising that includes visits to the natural wonder of Niagara Falls and Ontario's wine region. Meanwhile, Québec City roundtrip options deliver an immersive French-Canadian flavour, enhanced by sailings through the majestic Saguenay Fjord and visits to Francophone cultural hubs.

Additionally, new Halifax roundtrip voyages and expanded calls to ports like Kingston, Eastport (Maine), and Trois-Rivières enrich Victory’s repertoire, offering a fusion of Atlantic charm and inland wonders that define the North American cruising mosaic.
